Veliki Kaštel Fortress, Kotišina

The fortress Velik Kaštel in the village of Kotišina was built in the mid-17th century during the Kandyan War (Turkish-Venetian conflict). A stone wall was incorporated into the natural rocks of t Biokovo mountain, resulting in a multi-story structure with an irregular plan. On the facade of each floor, there are numerous arrowslits and one smaller machicolation for pouring hot tar or throwing stones when the enemy approaches the fortress. There were two entrances to the fortress – on the ground floor and the second floor on the north side. Once the fortress was additionally protected by a rampart, today you can see its remains.
